Science Says It's Good For Us. Like We Needed An Excuse

Retail therapy coming at ya.

So, it turns out shopping makes you feel good. Among countless other well-respected and highly-regarded journals, the Journal of Consumer Psychology revealed retail therapy as an instant way to make people happier and also a vital tool in keeping lingering sadness or stress at bay.

This, though, is hardly rocket science nor revelatory. But it could be the excuse (you don’t really need). Many of us are all-too-familiar with the thrill of the new, the rush of a treat-yo'-self moment.

There are, though, some hacks to make sure you’re getting the most out of your therapy session. Go for something you need, or better still, have wanted for a long time. Shop for something you’ll wear on the regular and keep forever. Think boots for work, denim for weekends, Calvin Klein crops for always.

Sure, a quick shop won’t solve all your problems (... unless, maybe, if you’re at the bottle shop), but it might just be the quick fix you’re after to amp yourself up for that date. Somehow, a little retail therapy makes you feel like you have good chat, like it’s not you who’s punching above your weight but them.

So, in the interest of a scientific answer to secure life’s soothing moments, we’ve pulled together some self-esteem boosters - all for under a cool $100.
