But if you knew Zac like we do (cough, cough)… you’d know that it’s the perfect role for him. It’s unexpected. Exactly like these four reasons we’re obsessed with him.

He’s super smart

While he’s played some less than cerebral characters, it turns out the 31-year-old Californian is actually quite intelligent. He’s even admitted that if he got a ‘B’ in high school he was not only disappointed in himself but also really shocked.   Apart from that he loves reading and according to a recent Men’s Journal interview, he’s just finished reading Herman Hesse's Siddhartha, and the sixth-century-B.C. Chinese Tao Te Ching. Deep.

He refuses to be typecast

Having starred in one of the most successful franchises of all time, he could have ridden the coattails of teen idol-ness for as long as possible but that was never an option for Zac.  Apart from a few movies (17 Again, anyone?) he has deliberately chosen film roles that challenge his image and his acting chops – check out his Ted Bundy portrayal in latest release, ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile’. Luckily, he’s ridiculously multi-talented – and apart from singing and acting, he’s also a producer, with his first producing credit on the movie, That Awkward Moment, and he has bought the rights to John Grisham’s The Associate, so watch this space.

He’s really adventurous
As well as skiing, hiking, skydiving, rock climbing, and sand boarding, Zac has even swum with tiger sharks in Hawaii. Recently when he was injured while skiing, he wrote on Insta (in true laid-back Zac style):  “I tore my ACL shredding the gnar… but all is good”. To see him really go wild, while camping and eating worms, do yourself a favour and Google ‘Running Wild with Bear Grylls and Zac Efron’… you’ll also see him bromancing on Bear Grylls like a lovestruck teenager.

He’s just like us
One of the reasons we think Zac is all that, is that he’s not perfect (despite his Ken-doll looks). He has admitted that he suffers from anxiety, and has struggled with addiction in the past, even attending AA, saying "It's a never-ending struggle." Also, he cried during Titanic, owns Celine Dion’s Greatest Hits album (and all her other ones) and he drives his grandfather’s car. Well, it’s a ’64 Mustang, but still.
