Every rainy weekend deserves a good binge session (and a tub of ice cream). So in honour of one of our favourites, Breaking Bad, turning the big 1-0 this year, we’ve pulled together our top five binge-worthy series for the next time you need a little time out.

The Wire

This gritty, American crime drama follows the drug scene in Baltimore. Written by a former police reporter, it’s realistic, unapologetic and raw. And you won’t want to turn it off until you binge all five seasons.

Seen it? Try The Sopranos… The grandfather of the gangster show was so realistic that local mobsters thought they might have an informant.

Broad City

Set in everyone’s favourite city, New York, this clever sitcom follows two hilarious women in their 20s as they try to navigate life. Comedy queen Amy Poehler is an executive producer so the laughs (and awkward moments) don’t stop coming.

Seen it? Try Portlandia… Completely absurd, satirical and very, very witty, this series pokes fun at the chilled out Pacific Northwest hipster culture.

Walking Dead

Zombies. Who doesn’t love zombies? Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, this nine-season show follows a group of survivors in the years after a zombie apocalypse. It’s gritty and addictive viewing.

Seen it? Try Buffy: The Vampire Slayer… a throwback, 90s favourite. If you haven’t seen the full seven seasons of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s badass vampire slaying, you need to.

Please Like Me

This Aussie drama about an awkward 20-something and his flatmates was a massive hit on our screens and for good reason. Comedian Josh Thomas is funny and profound in his role as Josh, a Melbournian who has just broken up with his girlfriend because he thinks he is gay.

Seen it? Try Kath and Kim… Whip smart and funny as, this hilarious series is an Aussie classic.

The Crown

With the third season of filming underway now’s the perfect time to catch up with the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s royal life. Expect beautiful fashion, pent-up feelings and a whole lot of dramatics. The word on the street is the Queen quite likes it!

Seen it? Try Downton Abbey… set in an aristocratic mansion in turn of the century England and packed full of Edwardian drama.
