He’s a man of many talents – first appearing on TV screens at the early age of 6, continuing his acting career almost without a break ever, and expanding his horizons through filmmaking, directing, singing and more.

So, on his birthday, we thought what better use of our time than revisiting some of his best works yet. Of course, there’s way more of Joseph Gordon-Levitt to watch (including every episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun) but if you’re strapped for time, here’s our top 6 films:

He’s a man of many talents – first appearing on TV screens at the early age of 6, continuing his acting career almost without a break ever, and expanding his horizons through filmmaking, directing, singing and more.

So, on his birthday, we thought what better use of our time than revisiting some of his best works yet. Of course, there’s way more of Joseph Gordon-Levitt to watch (including every episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun) but if you’re strapped for time, here’s our top 6 films:

1. 500 Days of Summer – for the feel-good dance scene mostly, but also because he was so good it earnt him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

2. Don Jon – because it was the first big feature film that he directed and starred in, and Scarlett Johansson played his love interest (well played).

3. Inception – for that trippy hallway fight scene, and a little bit for that sneaky kiss with Ellen Page.

4. Looper – because he went above and beyond to literally become Bruce Willis. “I studied him, and watched his movies, and ripped the audio off of his movies, so I could listen to them on repeat. He even recorded some of my voice-over monologues [from Looper] and sent me that recording, so I could hear what it would sound like in his voice. And then just getting to know him and spending time with him and letting it seep in. It's a really, really fascinating way to become a character. That's always my favourite thing, is to transform, become somebody else. If I see a moment that reminds me of myself I always feel like I messed that up” he’s admitted.

5. The Dark Knight Rises – because it was probably the one and only chance that he got to play Robin :(

and finally...

6. 10 Things I Hate About You – because it’s the GOAT and, fun fact: it was released 20 years ago. Feel old yet?

If that's sent you on a trip down memory lane then here's some flannel shirts to wear (open over a printed tee, of course) as tribute to Cameron James.
