THE ICONIC SPORT Challenge is back for another year and with Fitbit setting the goal of a 2km interval run, there's never been a better time to own one.

1. It can help you sleep better

Sure, your Fitbit is there to track your activity, but they’re also great for monitoring sleep patterns. Ever wake up feeling tired? Fitbit will automatically track how long you sleep and the quality of your rest – how long you spend in light, deep, REM sleep and how many times you wake at night.

2. It can encourage mindfulness

Being active doesn’t just mean the time when you’re in the gym, so Fitbit tracks your steps taken, distance covered and your active minutes throughout the day. After a few days you might even start to choose the stairs, run for the bus and walk that little bit further just to up your results.

3. It’s all done for you with SmartTrack

With SmartTrack, everything counts. This feature automatically recognises and records continuous or high movement activities, so even if you’re not intentionally working out, you’re still getting credit for it. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to hit your fitness goals now that your stroll to and from work is included.

4. It’ll keep you motivated

Exercise can be daunting and sometimes tedious, but your Fitbit can help you connect with friends, so you can compare and be motivated by others. Set group goals or start results-based competitions and see your motivation levels ramp up quickly.

Similarly, sharing your activity with your personal trainer via your Fitbit; they can track and monitor your achievements, giving advice and encouragement between sessions. It’ll help keep you on track, while also giving your PT an understanding of how you’re going during the week.

5. It keeps you accountable

Going to your boxing or yoga class twice a week is good, but it’ll take you longer to see results. Use your Fitbit to set daily goals – the hourly reminders will encourage you to take at least 250 steps per hour to keep you active throughout the day. Plus, it doesn’t just measure your steps. You can also use your Fitbit to keep an eye on your food and water intake, your heart rate, set alarms, timers and more. You’ll soon be making healthy fitness habits without even realising it.

6. It can coach you for free

Can’t afford a PT or don’t have time to schedule one in? Some Fitbit devices can offer you personalised coaching right from your wrist with Fitbit Coach, which has a free option with fitness videos. (Even without a device, you can download from the app store.) You don’t have any excuses to skip class now…
