6 Things You Don’t Take to the Beach but Should

No beach kit is truly complete without these extras

Heading to the beach in Australia is almost second nature. You hear that it’s going to be a scorcher so you slip into your bathers, grab your towel and go to your nearest swimming spot. You manage to find a spare square on the sand to call your own, you strip down to your bikini and take a dip. Everything seems pretty sweet; the water is warm but refreshing and everyone around you is smiling contentedly and leaving you to swim in your own personal space. You head back to your towel to work on your tan and that’s when you realise you’ve forgotten some key things that would take this spontaneous beach trip to the next level.

To some people, this list might seem obvious. To the others, take note. These are the 6 things that may not be as crucial at the beach as sunscreen, but would actually be really handy if you had them.

To some people, this list might seem obvious. To the others, take note. These are the 6 things that may not be as crucial at the beach as sunscreen, but would actually be really handy if you had them.

1. A bag that can handle a few splashes is more practical than your leather handbag you use day-to-day.

2. Headphones - it’s not often the kids next to you are playing decent tunes on their portable speakers…

3. An insulated water bottle to keep you hydrated with ice cold water at all times. This one looks like it belongs to a mermaid so obvs on our Wishlist.

4. Shades that will actually protect your eyes from the sun. We love a good pink tinted lens for the look, but when it comes to UV protection polarised is the way to go. Discover the best styles for summer by Le Specs.

5. An oversized shirt. Not only is it better than having to wriggling back into your denim shorts when you’re still a little damp, but it’ll also be kinder on your skin if you’re suffering a little sunburn.

6. A change of knickers. There’s literally nothing worse than ending your beach day at the bar still wearing your soggy swimmers.

Other honourable mentions include after-sun care, shoes and clothes you can take from day to night, inflatable beach toys (preferable already pumped up), and snacks that will last under the heat of the sun.
