He’s a Hollywood heavyweight that has graced the cover of Vogue, has a long-standing practical joke feud with Matt Damon, and married the world’s most perfect woman – brains, beauty and the rest! But on the eve of his 57th birthday, we’d thought we delve a little deeper into the notoriously private life of George Clooney to uncover a few weird and wacky facts about him.

He won’t wear make-up or dye his hair
Even though the Hollywood veteran is in his sixth decade, he goes against the norm in movie-land by refusing to dye his grey hair or wear make-up in his films. #hewokeuplikethis

His dog wrote emails to Amal
After meeting his future wife at his Lake Como house, George wasn’t sure if she was interested in him (yes, really) so he used his dog, Einstein, to woo her. Einstein would email Amal – a human rights lawyer - saying, ‘I’m being held hostage and I need a lawyer'! Now, that’s a bit cute, isn’t it?

He collects homes
Apart from his famous Lake Como Villa, George also has an LA property (that was once owned by Clarke Gable), a holiday home in Los Cabos, Mexico (his neighbours are Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber) and he and Amal just bought a home on an island in England for a cool $10 million.

His friends bet on him having kids

Even though at the time he was a confirmed bachelor, his friends Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman made a bet that he would be a father by the time he is 40. They were so sure of it, they bet $10k each. And, yes, they both paid up on his birthday.

He doesn’t like mobiles

Guests to his Lake Como house have included Brad Pitt, Bono and Bill Murray, but George makes it very clear that phones aren’t welcome. Especially at the dinner table. That’s why you don’t see many holidays snaps from him and his celeb mates.

His pig saved his life
Not only has his pet pig, Max, ridden in John Travolta’s private jet but he also saved his life once by waking him up before an earthquake. Now that deserves a belly rub and a carrot, surely…

He’s a big softie
He told David Letterman that he’d do anything for Amal, saying “I met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for. I met someone, who, her life meant more to me than my life. I had never had that experience before.”

Nawww…
