Why A Boyfriend Blazer is Better Than Having an Actual Boyfriend

We don’t need a man to make it happen…

The boyfriend blazer is here to stay. Anchored in our wardrobes since schoolyard days, the blazer has always been our go-to for an instantly sharper look. Most of us were introduced to the humble blazer during our early years, forced upon us as part of our school uniform. Naturally, because of its prim and properness it was the first thing we wanted to ditch as soon as the day was done, but we were too young to really appreciate its transformative power.

It was only until we grew older, and discovered the importance of fit and fabric, that we made the connection: a good blazer would make a lifelong partner, and probably do a better job at it than an actual boyfriend. A blazer will be your best friend whether you like it or not in a corporate work environment, but they’ve evolved over the years and go beyond formalities, which brings us to the boyfriend blazer.

Labelled so because of its slightly oversized silhouette that has quite literally been borrowed from the boys, the boyfriend blazer is adding an androgynous edge to all our outfits this season. We’re seeing this loosely tailored style being paired seamlessly with everything from evening attire to your everyday jeans-and-tee combo, and even on its own with high-top sneakers.

If that’s not enough to convince you to invest, then here are 12 good reasons why we think a boyfriend blazer is better than having an actual boyfriend:

  1. You can take it literally anywhere
  2. You can choose not to take it out to an event without a worry
  3. It can make you look smarter and more professional - perfect for the workplace
  4. It looks just as good with a casual outfit as it does corporate
  5. It can make a sharper plus-one to any evening event – think tuxedo styles
  6. It’s easier to carry home at the end of the night
  7. It’s not considered cheating if you have more than one on rotation
  8. You can wear it different ways so you’ll never get tired of it
  9. You can pick and choose which one you’ll wear each day
  10. It won’t get jealous of the other jackets in your wardrobe
  11. It’ll keep you warm at night
  12. You can always rely on it to have your back
