Your leave has been approved, you’ve booked your tickets and accommodation is sorted. Your summer escape is right around the corner so all that’s left to do is pack.

Whether you’re the type of person to leave it to the last minute, or you’re just so excited you’ve had everything washed and ready to go three weeks prior, make sure these essential items are included on your holiday packing list.

Airport Get-up

Think comfort first when you’re in transit. Wear your sneakers so they don’t take up space and weight in your suitcase. Track pants and a puffer jacket might seem like a cosy idea when you’re on your way out of winter in Australia, but if you’re about to land in a tropical climate you’ll wish you were wearing a pair of leggings and a lightweight knit instead.

On-board Entertainment

If you get restless on long flights then the first thing you’ll want is something to keep you occupied. Keep a book and some headphones handy in your carry-on bag and consider adding a travel pillow to your outfit - wear it around your neck to save space in your bag for your passport wallet, a water bottle and a light scarf to use as a blanket.

Luggage

A mid-sized suitcase is an obvious essential if you’re travelling for at least a few days. Look for four-wheeled styles with a hard shell in a bright colour, like these. If you can’t resist a sleek black suitcase then consider adding a striking luggage tag to the handle so you can spot it easily on the arrivals belt.

Instagram-Ready Outfits

When you’re surrounded by idyllic landscapes it’s almost a wasted opportunity not to up your ‘gram game. We’re all guilty of posting a #nofilterneeded pic to make our mates at home a little jealous, this time take it to the next level and make it a selfie with some picture perfect outfits to match.

“Holiday” Accessories

Think of them as the more exciting and fun versions of your usual day-to-day essentials. You might already have a perfectly good handbag you take everywhere, but treating yourself to a straw basket like this one is just part of the holiday experience. Same goes for all other accessories - add the word “holiday” as a prefix and suddenly all your new purchases are justified.
