It’s the last public holiday before Christmas so round up your mates and take advantage of the long weekend. Here’s how you can escape your city without having to stray too far and make that extra commitment.

Sydney Escape

While you’re lucky enough to live so close to the greatest beaches that stretch along the coast of NSW, you’re most likely going to spend every other weekend there too, so instead, take advantage of an extra day off work by going on a short road trip down south. Hyams Beach will take you far enough out of the city without being too much of a mission to get to. Set up camp close to the beach and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, even if they’re still that little bit too cold.

Brisbane Escape

Escape the bustle of Brisbane city by taking a trip up north to Noosa. With more beaches than we can count on our fingers, it’ll be easy for you to find a patch of sand and settle in for the long weekend. Take your board with you if you’re a surfer, or bring a rod if fishing is more your style.

Canberra Escape

Take advantage of the long weekend to get back in touch with nature and discover the Brindabella National Park. All roads require a 4WD vehicle so it’s good excuse to go for an off-road adventure, but if that’s not an option, you can always give your legs a good workout by hiking or cycling the trails.

Adelaide Escape

If we’re going to be honest, the long weekend really means an extra day or drinking so what better excuse to head to the Barossa Valley. Book a service tour to avoid drawing straws over who will be designated driver, or consider cycling between vineyards to space out the bevvies.
