Instagram accounts to obsess over

AKA five more reasons you won’t curb your phone addiction this month

I, like everyone else, am trying to spend less hours a day staring at a screen (#BlackMirror). But it’s not easy! My job requires approximately 8 hours of staring at a laptop, post-work Netflix is my sedative of choice, and my boyfriend and I have developed a terrible condition where we can’t fall asleep without watching The Office US in bed. It’s a blessing and a curse. Of course, then there’s Instagram – that elusive time suck which prevents me from achieving all the potential I (probably, maybe) have hidden deep within because I simply must see how this cake’s galactic mirror glaze turns out. Eugh.

In the interest of leaning into my addiction slash bringing y’all down with me, here are the accounts I’m loving right now.

Eugh.

In the interest of leaning into my addiction slash bringing y’all down with me, here are the accounts I’m loving right now.

@thedetailsstore – it’s an online vintage store launched by Sydney stylist Dee Jenner, who has an amazing curatorial eye. Extra great: she’s just started selling some pieces directly from Instagram. With a focus on sustainability and storytelling, she manages to put a little bit of magic into every post.

@bymariandrew – she’s a writer and illustrator based in NYC whose just-released book Am I There Yet? The Loop-de-loop, Zigzagging Journey to Adulthood is already a New York Times bestseller (which is a huge deal). But more than that, her simple illustrations hit the sweet spot between funny, touching and relatable. They’re guaranteed to make you smile in the middle of a bad day.

@airbnb – outside of Instagram, AirBnB is the other app which I spend half my life on. I’m sick for a themed list, fantasy holiday planning and sending links to my long-suffering boyfriend who just wishes I would care less about aesthetically-pleasing eco homes in Joshua Tree that we will never actually be able to afford. Their Instagram account pulls all the best bits from the site, and AirBnB user’s own Insta snaps, and puts them in one easy-to-access feed.

@somewhereIWouldLikeToLive – everybody loves a little interiors porn, and this account – helmed by interior design studio Katty Schiebeck Studio – collates some of the most epic, awe-inspiring shots. Scrolling through my saved posts, I quickly realised most come from this page. They also manage @somewhereIWouldLikeToGo, which is filled with dreamy escapes that then force me to spend more time on AirBnB (it’s a vicious cycle).

@cleowade – a poet and artist who has been dubbed “the millennial Oprah”, follow her for sage advice, little bursts of positivity and reminders that everything will be just fine. She’s totally divine and she just wrote a self-help book – Heart Talk: Poetic Wisdom for a Better Life – that I’m adding to cart right this second (and you should be too).
