Is Tupac Still Alive?

We’ll let you be the judge, but one thing that will live on is his influence on our style.

The Internet loves a fake death conspiracy. Between Elvis, Michael Jackson and Jim Morrison it would have us believe that there’s hell of a lot of living dead roaming around the world. But perhaps one of the most persistent conspiracies is that Tupac Shakur is still kicking around. And not just around, but apparently living large in Cuba (way before it was cool to do so btw).

Before we take a look at what the conspiracy theorists think, here are the other facts: Tupac was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996, and died six days later in hospital from the injuries. The murder is still unsolved.

Before we take a look at what the conspiracy theorists think, here are the other facts: Tupac was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996, and died six days later in hospital from the injuries. The murder is still unsolved.

Now, here’s what the detectives of the web have to say:

The Posthumous albums are suss: Tupac has miraculously released more records since his death than before he was killed. Apparently all the recordings were made when he was still alive but, well, that is a lot of songs.

The man responsible for Tupac’s cremation conveniently “disappeared”: So, basically there’s no one around to verify the cremation did in fact happen. Also his social security number wasn’t registered in the official documents, making it even stranger.

Oh and the coroner’s report had some inconsistencies too: It claimed that he was six feet and 215 pounds, whereas his drivers license says he’s 5’10 and 168 pounds. Weird.

There have been at least 10 “sightings” of the rapper around the world: Many have been debunked but others, like this video of a doppelgänger joking around with Suge Knight (the former Death Row Records boss who happened to be with Tupac on the night of the murder) back in 2004.

Then there’s this pic - which you have to admit does look a lot like him. But perhaps the weirdest is one of the last sightings was in Somalia, and apparently he was with former Outlawz buddy Yaki Kadafi… who is also dead.

Suge Knight has made some pretty wack comments about it: Remember, this guy was in the car with him when he died - and he was at the hospital too. First, he made these comments: “When I left that hospital, me and Pac was laughing and joking. So I don’t see how somebody can turn from doing well to doing bad." Then, in 2014 (in another interview) he hinted again, suggesting that Pac was in Cuba. Then last year when being interviewed for the Fox special “Who Shot Biggie and Tupac” the interviewers asked point blank if he thought Tupac was still alive, and this is what he said: “I’m going to tell you like this, with ‘Pac you never know.”

So is the rapper still alive, or are diehard fans desperately holding on to his legacy? We’ll let you be the judge, but one thing that will live on is his influence on our style.
