Mango Is Where It’s At This Season

Wake up your style with a slice of your own

Back in 2000, a band called Coldplay released their debut album with what would be their first hit single. It was called ‘Yellow’. Fast-forward to now. We’re still playing that song on iTunes and taking our fashion cues from the early noughties. Move over #millennialpink. There’s been whispers on the street there’s a new tone in town, and it goes by the name of mango.

When it comes to our next pop of colour we’re craving a little more sunshine. No better timing with winter in the rearview mirror to turn up your wardrobe’s brightness levels and set your sights on the horizon. Happy-making shades that remind us of tropical fruit and turmeric are here to wake-up your style. Here’s how to remix it.

Warm up

For those who are a bit shade-shy, go mellow by throwing a colour bolt into your neutral ensemble. Currently trending at fashion week are butter coloured wide-leg trousers paired with a casual tee. It’s equally fresh and easy to pull off.

Sunrise to sunset

Our obsession with ombre may have started with Alexa Chung’s hair but now it’s seeping into pretty much all facets of everyday life. Including everyday wear. Experiment yellow with sun-drenched gradients like burnt orange and creams. Unsure of the right tone? Pantone-approved mango is flattering for all skin shades. Go ripe to brighten your features or go soft like a probiotic mango lassi to let that tan glow. Just the thing to lift your spirits early in the morn (even strangers on the work commute).

Be delicious

It’s all about the gradient. If sweet caramels and honeys are our new neutrals then you can’t get a more tasteful pairing than adding a slice of banana for fun. And this colour is all about playing around. It isn’t the universal symbol of optimism for no reason. Whether you opt for a cult yellow bag or a bright parka jacket, a warm palette will keep the look balanced.

Star burst

If you dare to get golden head-to-toe make sure you hit the right tone. You can either be bold like Bey in her Hold Up vid and copy that deep shade of mango (coincidently this seems to be the time yellow started popping up on the street). Or go lemon sorbet all over like ‘it’ girl Vanessa Hong [https://www.instagram.com/p/BZEXR8BDQLp/?hl=en&taken-by=thehautepursuit] who’s made the colour her signature look. The key to nailing this colour is the feminine shapes. Think prairie dresses or patisserie frills. It’s everything you want when wondering what to wear to that wedding coming up.
