5 Reasons Why We'd Vote for Miranda

Happy Birthday Cynthia!

When rumours began circulating that Miranda Hobbes from Sex and The City - known IRL as Emmy Award winner Cynthia Nixon - might run for governor of New York, we know we weren’t the only ones who felt a little flutter of excitement. And now, the rumours are true.

Speculation first began when she criticised the current governor on education funding. (Her three children have all attended public schools in New York state.) Plus, it’s not Nixon’s first foray into politics. Although she only played famous First Lady Nancy Reagan in 2016’s Killing Reagan, she did support NY mayoral candidate, Bill de Blasio in 2013. Her wife of six years is an education activist. A natural next step we reckon?

In this unsettled time, this is why Cynthia’s the level-headed figure the world needs.

1. She's No Nonsense
Days after announcing her candidacy, she was dismissed by former NY City Council speaker Christine Quinn as an ‘unqualified lesbian’. A term she laughed off, admitting that she doesn’t have a certificate. She has since harnessed the ‘insult’ and made her own, in a similar vein to Trump’s notorious ‘nasty woman’ slur. Nixon’s even selling badges emblazoned with the slogan to help raise funds for her campaign.

2. LGBTQI Representation
Which can never be a bad thing, but in Trump’s America, and a city as high-profile as New York, it is perhaps more important than ever.

3. She's a Red-head
While we’re on the topic of representation, couldn’t the world do with more, visible gingers. With politics teeming with Ivankas, a bit of variety never hurt anyone.

4. THE CHILDREN
Nixon’s main concern is the education of the next generation and with three kids of her own, she gets it.

5. Power-dressing Potential
Just look at those SATC outfits. If you were too busy envying Carrie’s looks, here’s a few of Miranda’s to jog your memory. We know, we know, she’s a fictional character.
