“My Goal Was Always The Olympic Games.”

World champion Lauren Parker on motivation and more.

Modelling THE ICONIC’s new Adaptive Edit, we spoke to professional Para-Triathlete and world champion, Lauren Parker, about what motivates her.

What first inspired you to become an athlete?
“I was so competitive growing up and loved challenging myself in sport. I started off as an elite swimmer and would look up to Susie O’Neil for inspiration. My goal was always to go to the Olympic Games.”

And your next big goal?
“My next big goal is to win a gold medal in the para-triathlon at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.”

On days when you’re not feeling proactive, what gets you motivated?
“Thinking about my goals keeps me motivated to train hard. I love everything about training and competing so I’m not unmotivated very often. When I have setbacks, I always try to find a way to stay positive and achieve small daily goals.”

What are you most proud of in your life?
“I’m proud of what I’ve been through in life, both in sport before and after my accident, and how I was so committed and dedicated to my sport. I’m proud of how I’ve overcome such life-changing adversity and so many setbacks and still be able to find a positive attitude when everything around me was negative. I’m proud of finding a way to get back into my sport, setting goals and achieving them.”

“I’m proud of becoming world champion in the para-triathlon in 2019, and now going to represent Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games to bring home that gold medal. Last but not least, I’m proud of inspiring so many people of all ages in their own lives that are going through their own adversities. It makes everything worthwhile knowing I’m making a difference in others lives, helping people to never give up, and inspiring kids to go for their dreams.”

What everyday thing do you love to do most?
“I love going to my favourite local coffee shop for a coffee after training before my next session. As a hobby I also love playing guitar and listening to music.”

How did you find modelling for THE ICONIC’s new Adaptive Edit?
“I absolutely loved modelling for THE ICONIC’s new Adaptive Edit. I had so much fun and really loved the high quality garments and designs made for people that would benefit from the adaptive range. I’ve always loved fashion, and have been interested in modelling, so this opportunity was exciting.”

What’s the importance of a retailer like THE ICONIC having an Adaptive Edit?
“THE ICONIC having an Adaptive Edit is so essential because it enables people with a disability to feel included. To have fashion garments easy to put on and remove helps people’s independence and quality of life. It encourages people to have the confidence in themselves and their individuality.”
