Need now: the satchel

Guys on the go these days have to carry a much heavier load than in the past pre-mobile era. Back then it was all wallet with cash. Straight in the pocket. Now your everyday essentials can range anywhere from the phone, the wallet, the cam, keycards, headphones, book and tablet or laptop. So it’s pretty much impossible to get around without something to lug all your stuff in.

The classic backpack is tried-and-true but what if you are after something a little more streamlined. Easy access and tech-friendly compartments? Slide in, slide out style. The satchel really is the modern man’s best friend. And we all laughed at Alan off The Hangover for his man purse, little did we know that this cross-body bag was actually a functional carrying utility.

But what about the belt bag you ask. Aren’t they trending big this season? Yeah but it isn’t going to help you when you need to tap some wi-fi at the local cafe cause you’re on a deadline. Nobody likes a smashed screen. When it comes to 9-5 accessories, size does matter. Save the minimalist in you for the boys’ night out.

The carry options are simple. If you want to live everyday like it’s the 90s and Biggie Smalls is still king, stick with the sporty nylon approach. Great to get street grubby – this fabric is like a breeze to wipe down or chuck in the washing machine.

For the creative types whose city is their office then go beyond black with tan.The retro satchel that gives a nod to the old school medicine bag is cool enough to transition you from serious meets to drinks with your lady.

And for the boss men who mean big biz, choose your satchel on the larger size so it can make a sweet travel bud for those corporate flights. Black leather always looks good whether you’re in suit or not. But update the briefcase look with zips instead of heritage clips. Way smoother for man handling paperwork on the fly.

Whatever your satchel flavour expect nods of approval from men about town just like when your mo is in full force. There’s a reason Indiana Jones wears one.
