The red knit beanie from The Life Aquatic

Almost everyone in this screwy tribute to the ‘70s ocean-themed docos of Jacques Cousteau wears a red beanie, and they all look cool as hell in them. A classic-shaped beanie with one roll will never go out of fashion, and Team Zissou’s striking red caps are particularly stunning.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Image: IMDB

Classic Adidas Tracksuits from The Royal Tenenbaums

In one of Wes Anderson’s most successful films, the dysfunctional family drama The Royal Tenenbaums, Ben Stiller and his two sons wear matching red adidas Originals tracksuits that walk a fine line between chic and comic. A brave man could pull this off, but for those less inclined towards retro fashion, a non-red matching tracksuit update can be right on trend.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007). Image: IMDB

The tailored suits of The Darjeeling Limited

In Anderson’s Indian odyssey, three bickering brothers travel the continent by train in search of their mother. Their matching designer luggage is to die for, but their immaculately tailored suits in linen or flannel make them look timelessly cool. Worn with no socks or a tie, the suits worn by Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman set the bar high for smart casual attire.

Bottle Rocket (1996). Image: IMDB

Dignan’s shirts in Bottle Rocket

Criminally stupid crook Dignan (Owen Wilson) in Anderson’s first feature, Bottle Rocket, is right on-trend now with his camp collar short sleeved shirts. His chinos and sneakers are also bang-on considering he was intended to be a bit of a geek in this charming buddy comedy.

Rushmore (1998). Image: IMDB

Max Fischer’s beret-blazer combo in Rushmore

In Rushmore, Anderson’s answer to Catcher In The Rye or The Graduate, his anti-hero Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) cuts a memorable figure in his blazer (badges on the lapel), chinos and red beret. Berets are due for a comeback soon and you can mix this outfit up with a classy tie and any type of footwear.

Wes Anderson’s Corduroy Ensembles

The director’s own style is just as unique and memorable as that of he characters in his films. Anderson is almost always seen in brown corduroy suits with cropped trousers showing chunky socks and his trademark Clarks Wallabee moccasins.
