The whole world knows that Parisians are the most achingly chic people, from their ‘un-done’ hair to their polished toes. They don’t even seem to try. And with brands like these, it’s not hard to see how they pull off covetable French style.

Sandro

Artistic Director Evelyne Chétrite’s passion for clothing began in her grandfather’s shirt-making shop in her native Morocco. While studying law, she took a weekend job in a vintage boutique, which revealed her keen eye for styling and gained her a loyal customer base. Together with her partner, Didier Chétrite, she opened the first Sandro boutique in 1984.

Situated in the heart of Paris, the brand’s workshop is immersed in the capital’s stylish sensibility, influencing Chétrite’s own vision of style – a distinctly Parisian balance of masculine and feminine design. No wardrobe is complete without the brand’s pretty tops – beautifully detailed or trimmed with lace – tastefully embellished trophy jackets and staple jeans in wearable fits that transition from day to dark.

Maje

Loved for mini dresses, tongue-in-cheek prints and bohemian motifs, Maje looks and feels like the playful younger sister of Sandro and fittingly, is designed by Chétrite’s sibling, Judith Milgrom. Learning the ways of the industry during her 9 years at Sandro, Milgrom innately knows what the Parisian woman needs and riffs on the city’s love of upgraded basics that work 24/7.

If you’re in the market for a few key pieces to complete your capsule collection, invest in a signature mini dress, finest quality leather biker jacket and a slogan tee.

The Kooples

Proving that keeping it in the family is a winning formula in Paris, The Kooples is the creation of brothers, Raphaël, Laurent and Alexandre Elicha, with Laurent heading up womenswear.

The brand set the tone for its achingly cool aesthetic with editorial shoots featuring rock ‘n’ roll couples (yep, that means you can dress your boyfriend, too). More rebellious than the previous brands, The Kooples trophy jackets and cigarette-cut jeans are laced with an irreverent air that the French do so well, managing to be both youthful and sophisticated in the same breath. And if grown up prints are your thing, you won’t be disappointed.
