Check the day

This sounds like an obvious one, but confusing the date and which day it falls on can mean you miss the entire event. We’ve seen it happen. Be sure to double check if 20th is a Friday or a Saturday…

RSVP early

Not only good manners, replying at your earliest convenience makes life infinitely easier for the host, by giving them an idea of what they need to prepare (and their expense) well in advance.

And do RSVP

For an event with an invitation (yes, even delivered via social media) neglecting to RSVP is not the same as declining. Don’t be that lurker who sees the event and never responds.

No screen time

Phones at the dinner table are a major no-no, and the same applies for constant checking at any social event. Turn the sound off and put it out of sight. It’s only a couple of hours.

Wear the uniform

It’s polite to adhere to the dress code. Showing up to someone’s formal reception in too-casual clothes gives the impression that you don’t share the importance of their special day.
