Last night’s Swim Show ‘17 on Sydney Harbour got you feeling inspired? Us too. Our wishlists are bursting with all the looks from the show, but it’s not just the clothes we want, the makeup from each of the season’s four biggest trends has us ready to make some additions to our beauty kit. Work the trends into your wardrobe and your makeup bag…

90s Noir

An unexpected choice for high summer, black and white goes from classic to statement-making this season thanks to a distinctly early nineties spin. Think contrast-trimmed swimwear and ALL the accessories your heart desires: white acetate sunglasses, mini chain bags, mod-ish hats. The runway saw retro silhouettes teamed with sporty-chic accents. Contrast strap detailing, slides and big-impact jewellery are essential in your summer wardrobe.

Beauty tip: Take the look into evening with a smoky eye thanks to Revlon Colorstay™ Crème Eye Shadow in Licorice, highlighting the inner corner with a touch of Earl Grey. Keep your lip colour understated. Apply nude lipstick at the centre of your lip and blot it with your finger for a subtle, matte finish. Our favourite is Revlon Super Lustrous™ in Bare Affair.

Lifesavers

Lifesavers

Giving us serious Baywatch vibes, lifesaver red is the season’s must-have colour – red-hot bikini sets and boardshorts, haven’t looked so good since everyone’s favourite lifeguard show hit our screens. High-cut, scoop-back swimsuits and chilli-red accessories are absolutely everywhere. Not for the faint hearted, this trend is guaranteed to get you noticed on the sand, but if you don’t want to jump into a scarlet one-piece just yet, there are other ways to work the look. Accessorise with a post-box hued bag or a high pigment lipstick.

Beauty tip: Take your new favourite hue from beach to bar with a bold red lip – Revlon’s new Super Lustrous Lipstick in Revlon Red is the perfect choice, made with microfine pigments for colour that really makes an impact.

Palm Springs

Palm Springs

Dive into the season’s California pool party vibes. Sun-bleached pastels and fruity motifs are the key to this summery look, with prints taking on a tropical platter of pineapples, lemons and bananas, as well as faded palm leaves and cacti. Sunglasses get a fun update with tinted lenses or coloured acetate frames with a playful retro feel. Designed for summer, floaty, breathable linen is a key element of this trend – layer an airy open shirt over your swimwear for effortless beach-to-bar styling.

Beauty tip: Softer shades call for more subtle makeup that focusses less on colour and more on textures. After the beach, give your skin a natural glow with Revlon Highlighting Palette in Bronzed Glow and dab your lips with a high-shine gloss.

Retro Brights

Retro Brights

On the other end of the spectrum are the hyper colourful retro brights. This season saw brands dial up the saturation with 80s-inspired tones that really pack a punch. Aerobics-style one-pieces come high-cut and slogan-stamped.

Beauty tip: Embrace the natural volume the ocean gives your locks this summer. Big hair perfectly complements the confident colours and impactful slogans. If you don’t make it for a swim, mist your hair with salt spray and finish the look with the hydrating Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Fuchsia Shock.
