Forgot stars, we want to see spots. Polkadots are where it’s at when it comes to this season. They’re French Girl cool, royal chic. Marilyn Monroe rocked the ittiest of bittiests polka dotted bikinis in 1952, Princess Diana wore spots on the regular and Julia Roberts showed us how it was done in Pretty Woman and we’ve been stomping spot-shaped divots ever since.

But they’re not just a black-and-white affair (unless you’re on track for Derby Day). The age-old print has enjoyed a resurgence of late in all kinds of shades. Think mix and match and clash.

Play with fabrics too, we love them in silks, in light-like air cottons and in anything that floats.

Play too with the size of your spot – go for something over exaggerated for statement pieces. Think larger than life, in strong contrasting colours. Or, for something a little more on the elegant side, go for a fine, all-over print, on that’s the first you’ll reach for no matter the occasion.

Wear them in feminine shapes and with bold accessories. The trick it to toughen it up – pair your spots with some heavy-set hoops or a block heel.

No matter how you wear it, it’s a trend that’s spot-on.
