Hang Out In: Bronte
Leave the mayhem of Bondi to the tourists and head a couple of beaches south to the eastern suburb of Bronte. Dotted with Insta-famous cafes, coffee and brunch is a must after your morning dip. Come sunset, brush the sand off your toes and make the most of the public barbecues on the vast grass area - enough space for get-togethers with Sydney mates or the kids to run free.

Hang Out In: Vaucluse
If you still want that city connection - complete with views of the harbour - head to Neilsen Park and down to the ominously named, but don’t-worry-not-scary, Shark beach. The affluent setting is the perfect place to pose, people watch and play ‘which house would I buy if I gave up avo toast for life AND sold a kidney?’ Cate Blanchett, Chris Hemsworth and James Packer have all owned homes here.
Wear: Saint Laurent Shades

Hang Out In: Avalon
A surfer’s haven just a stone’s throw from the CBD, Avalon is far less busy than Sydney’s eastern beaches and the sweeping scenery on the drive north adds to the feeling that you’re really out of town. Locally-owned boutiques and cafes create a village feel that makes this area an idyllic escape from city life. Visit in November when the town’s Christmas market sees the streets closed to traffic and cars replaced by stalls, live music and food trucks.
Wear: RVCA

Hang Out In: Manly
Although only a short ferry ride from the city, a trip to this self-contained, northern peninsula town feels like a vacation in itself. The beach-to-bar lifestyle can see you dipping your toes in the ocean one minute and watching the sun go down with a beverage in hand the next. Make sure you pack a beach-y dress and a day-to-night heel to head out for drinks with a view. Manly’s main beach can be mobbed in high summer so make like a local and cheat the crowds with a spot of snorkelling at the remote Quarantine Beach.
