We curl up with them on a Friday night, think about them long after you’ve seen them and insist that your friends like them. Basically, your favourite TV series is your substitute partner. Admit it.

So why not take them on holiday too? Pack your bags, we’re outta here!

Copenhagen, Denmark
TV inspo: The Killing
If you loved the darkness, intrigue and murders of Danish cult-series The Killing, you’ll be pleased to know that you can actually do a self-led tour of the Danish capital where you can retrace heroine Sarah Lund’s steps as well as visit the filming locations around the city. If you haven’t see it yet, this Nordic Noir series is well worth a watch as not only did a third of Denmark tune in each week, but it’s also won a BAFTA, has been nominated for an Emmy and has inspired the American remake.

Chicago, Illinois
TV inspo: The Good Fight
Fans of The Good Wife will have by now graduated on to The Good Fight, which in our eyes is better and more entertaining. We miss Will, but not Alicia. To visit the location of both of these shows, book a ticket to the mid-west of America! Built along the shores of immense Lake Michigan and the winding Chicago river, this city is like a much more manageable, chilled out version of New York city. There’s bars and shopping galore, beautiful architecture (except for the Trump building) and a whole lot of viewing to be had at the Chicago Institute of Art.

Medellin, Colombia
TV inspo: Narcos
OK, so the TV series might not have compelled you to visit Colombia… it could have had something to do with the drug wars, police corruption and Pablo Escobar. Or it could have been the fact that Medellin used to be the murder capital of the world. In any case, Medellin is now brimming with entrepreneurs, hip cafes, art galleries, innovative architecture and is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. It’s filled with young Colombians trying new food, new design and new urban planning. Plus, Colombia has some beautiful beaches that are well worth a visit too. Interested, now?

Big Sur, California
TV inspo: Big Little Lies

The HBO series, based on Aussie Liane Moriarty’s book, is actually set in the small, exclusive seaside town of Monterey, a little north of Big Sur. However, the opening sequence as well as several key scenes showcase California's stunning Pacific Coast Highway and the Big Sur landscape. The beautiful coastal views and age-old national state parks of the region are a perfect location to relax and read Moriaty’s other novels.
