How Meghan Markle became the best dressed royal

She's really upped her fashion game

I’ve been a longtime fan of Meghan Markle. I’m not just saying that because she’s all famous now, I swear.

I was a fan of her since her series Suits first came onto the scene years ago and no one knew her name. Her onscreen lawyer lover was real-life dating one of the actresses in my other favourite show at the time Pretty Little Liars, so then I was obsessed.

I stalked her on Instagram way back when Meghan actually had Instagram.

Then, she launched lifestyle website The Tig, named after her favourite red wine, Tignanello. Although I wasn’t as big of a wine connoisseur as she was, I’m a sucker for a celebrity website and was hooked (bummer she gave it up for royal duties).

Beauty website Gritty Pretty also did a photo shoot with her way back when and I just thought she was so chic.

The other day my friend was saying that Meghan’s style is boring, but I think it’s epic.

She keeps her colours and prints classic, with lots of black, white, navy and green. And is very minimal when it comes to accessories.

A simple hat, scarf or sunnies are her go-tos. But the way she combined it makes it look fresh and modern.

I feel it’s actually the perfect style for work coming into winter and we can all take some notes from her.

So here, I’m breaking down some of her best looks for you…

I feel it’s actually the perfect style for work coming into winter and we can all take some notes from her.

So here, I’m breaking down some of her best looks for you…

A floral dress and blazer

This is a classic Meghan twist on the ‘normal person’ dress look. She elevates a green floral frock with a black blazer, which makes it that little bit more pulled-together for work or brunch.

That’s the thing about Meghan - she always keeps it simple, but still knows how to team things together.

She knows the key is to clash feminine with more masculine lines. Or do we have the royal stylist to thank for that?

The queen of the longline coat

A definite staple for Meghan is a longline coat or trench. They’re often in a navy, white or caramel, and always look very elegant thrown over a simple top and skirt.

A coat is also perfect for the chilly weather, which we know girlfriend’s going to have to get used to.

Meghan usually completes this look with a ballet flat or pointy-toed black heel.

White collared shirt and jeans

When keeping it casual at something like a sporting match, Meghan still has that royal vibe by wearing a collared button-up shirt tucked in.

The skinny distressed jeans dress it down a bit and balance out the dressier shirt. This look is something I’d totally steal for lunch on the weekends.

Or when I become a soccer mum one day, haha. Just add classic flats and black sunnies.

Modern black and white

Somehow Meghan manages to make monochrome look interesting.

The key is to go for a white dress with subtle details like buttons and vertical stripes. These also help make you look taller.

Again, add a black blazer over the shoulders.

But the big secret is in the bag choice - a shoulder strap bag like Meghan's makes it feel really modern.
