Planning a holiday can be equal parts exciting/ stressful/ expensive and just plain confusing. So many places. So little time.  But if you’re after a tropical paradise close to home, the Pacific has an island for pretty much any kind of holiday you’re after.  Here are some of the ways to enjoy them:

“I want an Instagram worthy honeymoon (on a budget)”
CHOOSE: The Cook Islands
This little set of islands around five hours from Sydney are ringed by coral reefs and beaches laden with palm trees. But if you’re looking for something really special, hop on a small plane and fly to Aitutaki, one of the Cook Islands’ most beautiful destinations.  Besides postcard classic beaches, Aitutaki is famous for its huge swimmable lagoon, which is packed full of marine life. The Instagram photos will just take themselves.

I want both adventures and beach time”
CHOOSE: Samoa
One of the most under developed and traditional of the Pacific islands, Samoa doesn’t host five-start resorts or attract bus loads of tourists. But what it does have are prerequisite stunning beaches, mixed with an impeccable natural beauty. Swim in waterfalls, hike lush forests and jump into the very intsagrammable To Sua Ocean Trench. Perfect for couples!

“I’d like to scuba dive in secret spots”
CHOOSE: Palau

Made up of 200 volcanic islands, Palau is a relatively unknown destination to most travellers, unless you’re a scuba diver. Known for its phenomenal underwater offerings, this tiny island archipelago not only has untouched ocean diving spots, but there is also the magnificent Jellyfish Lake, filled with (you guessed it) blobby jellyfish. Thousands of them.

“I want everything organised for me”
CHOOSE: Fiji
Just three hours from Sydney, Fiji offers up everything from deserted islands to hidden waterfalls, but over the past few decades it’s become the home of the package holiday as well. Want to book a plush hotel, order room service and swim on a private beach? Fiji has you covered. It’s great for families and girl’s weekends, or for just a “I’m too stressed’ break

“I want killer tropical waves to surf”
CHOOSE: Tahiti
Sure, Tahiti is the place to go for honeymoons where budgets aren’t a problem, but this tropical island in French Polynesia is also home to some pretty decent breaks. If you’re a big wave surfer, you won’t be disappointed, but the good news is that these surfing breaks are also great for the less experienced. The winter months are the best time for surfing holidays, so start planning next year’s escape!
