Why We Probably Won’t Stop Listening To Drake Any Time Soon

A lesson in how to catch feelings.

There are some songs that are better than any others. They’re the ones you call your own, the ones you’ll dance to, run to, escape with. And, for the large percentage of those songs, we have Drake to thank.

Drake’s lyrics are the kind we’ve learnt by heart since 2008.  The Toronto kid made good, his mixtapes are the stuff so many girls’ dreams are made of. They’ve seen us through heartbreak and crazy, stupid loves.

Take, for example, this line from Best I Ever Had -

“Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin' with no make-up on / That's when you're the prettiest, I hope that you don't take it wrong.”

Sigh.

Or what about this, from Hold On, We’re Going Home -

“I got my eyes on you / You're everything that I see / I want your hot love and emotion, endlessly.”

Breath, stopped.

But weak at the knees is not all he’s given us. He also gifted us – according to The Washington Post – YOLO, he dances like we’ve always wanted to (case in point: Hotline Bling) and he’s got more Billboards and Grammys than we can verify. In short, and to use his own words, Drake’s "fresher than a pillow with a mint on it".

He goes by the handles Champagnepapi and Drizzy and is one of our favourite old school guest hosts of Saturday Night Live. He swore he'd bank $25 million by the time he was 25 – and he did it, with change. Forever in sweats, and sometimes Timberlands, he told GQ in 2013, “I really don’t live some crazy rapper life” despite calling California’s Hidden Hills home. Ludacris called him a “counterfeit rapper” while Lil Wayne named him the best rapper alive. Marry him or meme him, he’s where it’s at. Especially today of all days: it’s his birthday, baby.

Here’s a little Drake-inspiration for you (for you) on time….
