Perennially tanned and perpetually hilarious, Ryan Reynolds is the Hollywood heart throb who makes Twitter a worthwhile game. People Magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive, he regularly cracks a place on Men Of The Year lists and, more importantly, on his wife Blake Lively’s Instagram.

If you Google ‘Ryan Reynolds Golden Globe’ in the hope of fact-checking just how many nominations he’s earned, you’ll have to scroll past the top search results: ‘See Ryan Reynolds Make Out with Andrew Garfield’ to find the answer.

We fell for his boyish quips in Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place and again as Van Wilder, but now we know him as the hilarious superhero whose adventures (and dialogue) are NSFW. R-rated and – by default – a really good time, the Deadpool series for Reynolds began as a passion project, the first installment a labour of 11 years marketed largely by his own tweets, promising that “there will be blood. Guns. F-bombs. And graphic, expertly lit French unicorn sex.”

The Canadian-born actor and all-round funny guy now calls NYC home and the Twittersphere his playground:

These days, though, he’s less of a party goer and more of a dad joker.

But a hero all the same.

When someone asked in a tweet how his daughter might one day respond to his keyboard heroism, Reynolds did what he did best: “Joke’s on you. We’re not teaching her to read.”

Nominations for Father Of The Year are clearly open. Here’s a little from the Reynolds archives to make your day a better place.

"The first car my brother and I jacked together. I’ll never forget that bowl-cut. Or the sound of Dad screaming from the trunk."

@vancityreynolds

"As a kid, the only thing my brother loved more than taking me out for a cruise was returning home after nightfall. Alone."

@vancityreynolds

"… The point is, I used to style my hair with a blowtorch."
