World-famous *moves*, a revolving door of iconic girlfriends (Marianne Faithfull was said to be so devastated by his marriage that she slept through his wedding day with the help of vodka martinis and Valium) and selling out stadiums for the last five decades - Mick Jagger is the epitome of the classic British rockstar.

And the rocker’s stage presence isn’t the only thing we want to harness. Over the years the Rolling Stones’ frontman has become legendary for his gutsy approach to dressing. So the lyric goes, “life's just a cocktail party - on the street.” Yes he’s an icon of the most hedonistic decades and at first glance, Jagger’s trademark style may seem risky, eccentric even - the scarves, the shades, the velvet flares… But take a closer look and you’ll realise that he rarely strays beyond a core formula of slim-fitting pants and a statement shirt. Sometimes a blazer.

All the added (optional) extras are just smoke and mirrors.

Pants and a shirt? Now that’s a pairing any of us can achieve. Now his seventh decade, he’s honed his look, but we think his best moments came in that most stylish of eras - the 1970s.

Wardrobe can't get no satisfaction? Let's look at some of Mick’s defining fashion moments:

His Wedding Day

It’s impossible to go past Bianca Jagger’s now iconic bridal look, but, for their 1971 nuptials Mick rose to the occasion in St Tropez style with a pale, three-piece suit, brogues and a printed shirt. Flying in fellow rock’n’roll royalty on a private jet, the occasion brought the French Riviera town to a standstill.

On Tour

At the airport with Stones muse Anita Pallenberg, Keith Richards and the rest of the band, Jagger adds flair to his trusted shirt-and-pants combination with a soft leather holdall, round-framed shades and a signature hat.

Night Out

On an evening in Paris with Texan model and his partner of 20 years, Jerry Hall, Mick proves that the leather biker jacket and the humble checked shirt are both timeless investments that look as good today as they did nearly 50 years ago. We just need the haircut to go with them.

On Vacation

In holiday mode while in Brazil, Mick gives us a lesson in vacay dressing with a printed shirt in a relaxed but slim fit. P.S. fairy floss = new essential accessory. Is there nothing this guy can't pull off?
