Josue Hurtado
“I grew up in the Sunshine State. Carefree and pretty privileged. Everything was kind of, well, easy. I had friends, though, who struggled to find their place in that world of ours. They didn’t start out with what I had. But they were everything to me. Some were Maori, others Tongan, and they taught me so much. I feel really privileged to have learnt so much about other cultures, to have grown up alongside them. It’s these relationships – what I learnt from them, sure, but also what they made me – that I want to share with my son. To share the absolute non-negotiables to being human: tolerance and love.”
