Our story dates back to the ‘70s in Spain with our dad hand-making belts and bags on the streets of Sitges, on the Costa Brava. Mac and Mardee (Husband and Wife/Mum and Dad) developed a cottage industry, engaging many locals to emboss, plait and hand-stitch leather bags, belts and sandals in their homes. Soon they were selling wares in exhibitions throughout Europe and even to Neiman Marcus in the USA. They opened a factory and four stores along the Coast and even one in Gaudi’s La Pedrera, Barcelona. Thirty years later, we all work side-by-side to continue to create accessories, footwear and more recently, linen clothing.

Cipresso Jumpsuit

We continue to celebrate our European heritage, maintaining a passion for craftsmanship, quality and timeless style. In 2016, we launched our line of linen clothing manufactured in Italy and inspired by a love affair with the Amalfi Coast and the meeting of a local likeminded designer; a true artisan who produces all of our linen in Positano.
We have immersed ourselves in this linen range so rich in culture, tradition, pride and centuries of craftsmanship. We collaborate and come to her with designs and ideas and then she hand-works them into incredible reality using the most involved craftsmanship. We are committed to traditional and artisanal craftsmanship, premium production and authenticity.

It is never just about the quality of the goods, but the story behind it; the synergy between the artisan and the designer, the craftsman’s story behind the product and the designer behind the concept. Our story begins with our parent’s journey through Spain and it evolves every day.

Our label’s European roots have enabled us to cultivate close relationships with our manufacturers, in mutual respect and understanding - especially as a family business. The majority of the factories we work with are family owned and there is pride in the production and a quality that comes from creating with passion and care. We pride ourselves on our relationships with our European manufacturers who feel more like an extended family. What’s more, European manufacturing is largely revered by consumers as a sign of luxury and with good reason; Europeans do not short cut in their quality of life, food or fashion.

From a young age, our parents encouraged the value of artisanship and quality. Once, our father broke his nose in Spain and told the hospital to imagine they were hand stitching an Armani suit -  a meticulous attention to quality and detail we should all bring into our lives.

The benefits of being an Australian company with these European roots and relationships sets us apart from other labels who might draw inspiration from Europe, but our roots form our aesthetic DNA. Estilo actually means ‘style’ in Spanish.  Our aesthetic draws influence from Mediterranean coastlines and strikes the perfect balance between international influence and Australian everyday style.

We respect the process as much as the outcome. We are completely hands-on with our production, from conception to completion, we work with absolute passion, perseverance and the utmost respect for everyone involved.

The Positano workrooms reveal the wonderful people who work with true artisanal craftsmanship, attention to detail, heart and soul. We celebrate the craftsmanship of artisanal handwork, maintaining honesty and tactility within design.  Every single item has human hands involved in the production, and we believe that is really important.

When you feel the linen, one can sense its origins and the time that went into making the final product, trust me and touch some- you will know what I’m talking about. This is a product with real integrity, tactility and the use of raw materials and honest work.

Edie Jumpsuit in White

The flax is grown and harvested in France and then sent over to Italy in its rawest form where it is then plied together on old spinning looms and traditionally woven in various weights and thicknesses. The best weaving mills are undeniably in Italy where knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation and is skillfully used to create the best linen fabrics in the world. In these Italian mills, generations of weaving mastery become apparent. The raw and textural appeal is undeniably distinguishable and sets us apart. The Italians are unmatched in their ability to weave and finish the finest fabrics in the world. The techniques used are safeguarded to ensure they cannot be copied.

Our linen is raw and comfortable, soft, yet strong and durable. The more it is used, the softer and stronger it becomes. Linen is the most breathable fiber and can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture before it feels damp, and easily releases moisture to the air to remain cool and dry to the touch. Flax remains colourfast and launders beautifully. It has the additional advantage to be non-allergenic and just downright feels good. No other fiber can offer this unique blend of luxury and comfort, supreme elegance and down-to-earth practicality.

Growing up encompassed by nature and her environment, our fabric manufacturer draws inspiration for colours and weaves from her surroundings. She spends hours on the looms weaving the colours of thread and stories from her everyday. As we look out of her workshop windows, at the mountain and sea that wraps Positano, we can definitely see the seamless blend of perspective and artistry that brings the brilliant hues to the linen. She tells us that it fuels her imagination and she is constantly compelled to express what she is experiencing. The fabric continues to tell a story and weaves a special bond around garment and wearer.

Edie Jumpsuit in Natural

We are all about layers.  Linen and leather – oh and cashmere! Layer yourself in natural fibers and you can be comfortable all year long. People often think of linen as a warm-weather textile, but it is just as functional in colder months. Constructed out of hollow fibers, linen acts as a natural insulator, keeping you cool in summertime and warm in the dead of winter (well, a blessed Australian winter!).  But why settle on one luxe fabric when a wealth of lavish layers looks chic and feels comfortable?

We design with the idea of an interchangeable capsule wardrobe.  We serve a new, uninhibited and contemporary luxury style that is timeless, ageless and relevant around the world - women can dress up on safari or trips to Cuba and still come home to the same wardrobe in their urban jungle. Our inspiration is definitely the global woman who loves to travel and effortlessly roam the globe. But we can’t discount that feeling of coming home; the flexibility of our loose formed clothing lends itself to the ultimate travel attire, to travel and come home to. We are a product of our environment and what better inspiration than our Australia; we cater to the climate (literally) and of a relaxed lifestyle with a fabric that breathes around the body.

Our favourite piece on THE ICONIC right now has to be our Edie Jumpsuit. It is a one-step outfit with lasting durability and unrivalled comfort. The Edie is simple enough to dress up or down with a neutral hue that makes it easy to accessorise. The Jumpsuit lightly hugs the top half of the body and volumes out in an inspired palazzo pant that is fresh and natural- symbolizing freedom, effortless grace and carefree elegance.
