5 things in your wardrobe you should say goodbye to in 2019

It’s time to be harsh, people.

Wardrobes are mysterious and wonderful things. They house our most precious shoes and outfits, but also hide our guilty pleasures – ‘couch wear’, if you will. However, the key to always feeling your best (and creating room for more clothes, let’s be honest) is to keep your wardrobe sleek and organised. And that means… it’s time to say goodbye to a few old friends. Starting with…

That horrible jumper your mum gave you for Christmas
It has to go. You know it and we know it. There are two ways to do this. Either upfront by telling your mum it just doesn’t suit you (then dealing with the fallout), or subtly by avoiding her enquiries about where it is (‘Oh I wore that yesterday mum because I LOVE it so much, it’s in the wash’ or ‘My bestie borrowed it because it’s SO NICE.’) The lies are endless.

Your ex’s favourite t-shirt
Yes, it super comfy. Yes, it still smells like your ex. And sure, it brings back a tonne of great memories. But holding onto the past, especially when it comes to an ex, is one way to make sure you don’t move on in the future. Plus, try explaining to your current (or next) partner why you just can’t let that t-shirt go… expect very awkward convos all round.

Those shoes that massacre your feet
They are beautiful, sexy AF and cost you your first born child. But every time you wear them you’re left with Freddy Kruger feet. There’s only two ways to deal with them, either ask your friendly shoe repairer if you can stretch them, which is possible for leather shoes, but not for material ones… or donate them. Fashion should never make you bleed! If they are really too pretty, maybe display them on a bookshelf as bookends?

That dress you love that’s two sizes too small
Maybe you were given it, or maybe it was yours from a few years ago, either way, if it doesn’t fit… you won’t wear it. So all that happens when you see it, is you feel sad/guilty/angry. And, the bottom line is, no piece of clothing should have that power over you! If you really think you’ll be able to wear it in the future, hide it in a storage box for later. Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

Those leggings you can see through
We’re all for comfortable. But that doesn’t mean your couch wear should be lacking. Cheap leggings and bargain T-shirts shrink and stretch in the wash. They attract pet hair faster than a speeding bullet and end up being see-through and ripped before you make yourself a chai latte. It’s better to invest in your comfortable gear as you would any other clothing. Get the fit right, and go with a brand you trust so it lasts longer and you feel great in it. Your couch will appreciate it.
