It's probably fair to say that football fans everywhere were left feeling pretty shook when in 2022 videos of fashion boys dressed in Levis 501s and vintage soccer jerseys started popping up all over TikTok. Little did they know, as the looming World Cup brought a renewed interest from the fashion world in football, an entirely new trend had been born.
Loosely titled 'blokecore', the trend has millions of views on TikTok and has been co-opted by both men and women, looking to infuse their love of vintage sports merch with the 80s and 90s-inspired aesthetic that's informing the more elevated end of streetwear, taking cues from the football terrace culture, 90s britpop and even a little bit of dadcore thrown in for good measure. Even pro footballers themselves have jumped on board (see former Arsenal player Hector Bellerin for all the inspo you need).
Here's what you need to nail blokecore for yourself.

Soccer jerseys
(or failing that, vintage sports merch)
Blokecore takes most of its sporting cues from the football, with football memorabilia forming a fundamental part of its aesthetic (hence why it feels like every high-end streetwear brand is collabing on soccer jerseys at the moment). The rarer the jersey, the better, but if you simply want to rep a team or player you like, that's cool too (Italy's marble-patterned home shirt by adidas is an instant classic). If you support a different sport, there's no reason it can't extend to rugby or footy jerseys.

Straight-cut pants
While blokecore has naturally become most associated with dad-adjacent stonewashed jeans (as previously mentioned, Levi's 501s are the blueprint), your choice of pants is really pretty endless as long as they have a looser fit. They could be chinos, cargos, Dickies painter pants, or whatever you like. Even shorts can work so long as they have a slightly looser hem.

80s-era sneakers
Trainers were a fundamental staple of football culture in the 80s and 90s, and blokecore is no different. The current sneaker of the moment, the football-focused adidas Samba, is the obvious choice here, but other terrace-associated models like the Gazelle and Stan Smith, or even the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 will do just fine. As a rule, slim low-profile sneakers work best here.

Accessories
Blokecore is a pretty minimalistic trend, but there are ways of taking an already good fit to new levels of greatness. Men’s jewellery is encouraged, whether it's a simple signet ring or a chain hanging down over a jersey, while bucket hats, beanies, caps and even canvas tote bags also work. Put simply, if you can imagine Liam Gallagher wearing it on stage in 1997, you too can pull it off.Â
