“The rock I’m rocking - I bought it. ‘Cause I depend on me.” Destiny’s Child have been saying it since their anthem of self-sufficiency, Independent Women, was released in 2000, but only last year when Michelle Yeoh was spotted off screen wearing the emerald ring at the centre of the Crazy Rich Asians plot people assumed it was a loan - a clever piece of one-night only red carpet styling.

Turns out, the eye-catching ring belongs to the actress who deemed the original prop too underwhelming for her character, wealthy matriarch Eleanor Young, and offered her own as a more fitting substitute. She may be wearing it on her ‘ring finger’, but she bought it for herself, telling BuzzFeed’s “Profile” series. “I don’t wait for people to give me presents. If I want flowers, I’m going to send them to me.” Hear, hear.
