The Met Gala never fails to serve up some serious glam on the red carpet – and this year was no exception. From Dua Lipa’s cat eye to Rita Ora’s chain nails, the beauty looks were giving. But there was one beauty trend that stole the spotlight: Emily Ratajkowski’s micro-fringe.
The actress debuted Audrey Hepburn style bangs with face-framing pieces either side to give more of an undone look, with the rest of her hair waved and pulled back in a half-up, half-down look. She accessoried the style with a black bow that perfectly complemented her Tory Burch gown.
But the question on everyone’s mind was whether or not the micro-fringe was real or fake…

Her hairstylist Jennifer Yepez took to her Instagram account @jennifer_yepez, to post Great Lengths tape hair extensions, captioning the story “Met Gala Prep with @greatlengthsusa”.
She posted the extensions again in a later post adding “This was everything I needed today for my Met Gala look thank you @greatlengthsusa”. It’s no secret that Emily is a fan of faux bangs, debuting French-girl bangs with temporary clip-ins extensions at Cannes Film Festival last year.
However, she may have revealed that she finally made the commitment to the chop in a video from the red carpet posted by The Cut. In response to a reporter asking about her new look, Emily replied, “I had a fringe already, but just went a bit shorter”.
The jury is still out on the fringe being a clip in or real hair, but one thing is for certain: whether it’s effortless curtain bangs (Emily’s previous style), forever flattering face-framing bangs or the fashion-forward micro-fringe, bangs (real or faux) are fast becoming one of the biggest beauty trends of 2023.
