In celebration of Sydney WorldPride 2023, we asked the faces of our Louder Now campaign to share what messages about pride and self expression they think need amplifying. Here’s what they want to turn the volume up on:
“I want to see more people taking up space where they actually deserve and belong. As a representative of the First Nations community, the queer community and even bisexuality, I would like my voice and other queer voices to be amplified, not just in a particular time – always.” – Brooke Blurton, author and proud Noongar Yamatji woman
“I want to turn the volume up on every creative of every walk. Every single person who puts thought into what they do, every single day. No matter what colour you are, no matter what race you are.” – Nathan Angelis, model and photographer
“Baby, we’ve had a crazy, crazy year in our crazy world that we live in so it’s all about colour, colour, colour. Queer colour, queer joy and queer fabulocity. As a singer, it’s all about freedom! It’s all about joy! And baby, it's all about being proud of who you are.” – Seann Miley Moore, singer-songwriter
“For me it’s about elevating queer black and POC voices, queer Indigenous voices, black and brown trans voices. It’s all about elevating them and allowing them to take up more space than they have in previous history. It’s important that their voices are heard, that they’re elevated and that they are at the forefront.” – Basjia Almaan, model, dancer, performer, director
“I think it’s really important, especially in the world we’re living in, that we maintain and elevate as much as possible the importance of self expression. It’s all too easily taken away from us and if we just keep elevating each other, and loving each other, and showing that uniqueness and fabulousness that comes from within – that’s what we need to do. It’s important that we encourage each other to be our best selves and elevate, elevate, elevate.” – Hana Schlesinger, model and creative industry gal
