How To Choose The Best Sunglasses To Invest In

From classic wayfarers to sporty speed-dealers.

When it comes to sunglasses, picking the perfect pair is important. You want shades that provide proper sun protection, and you want them to look good – because you know you're less likely to wear them if they don't. But which men's sunglasses should you choose to complement your look, or simply upgrade your old ones? Here, we take you through a few of the biggest eyewear trends for 2023 with tips on how to wear them so they don't wear you.

Square Frames

Truly the all-rounder and for a long-time the absolute go-to for just about every fashion-conscious guy in existence, including the King of Centre Court Roger Federer, classic square-framed shades like Oliver Peoples Finley 1993 and the OG Ray-Ban Wayfarer can be worn with pretty much everything. They pair well with a suit, but due to their sporting heritage, also work seamlessly into more leisurely fits, whether that be a printed party shirt or even athleisure. If you want a one-size-fits-all option, this is the eyewear for you.

Wire-frames

Something of a sartorial upgrade from the classic Wayfarers while maintaining a sense of classic style, wire-frame sunglasses are a great opportunity to elevate your eyewear game if you're still working out your own personal style. Aviator-inspired Gucci sunglasses look great with breezy dressed-up linen shirts and pants, but can also look surprisingly cool paired with a plain tee and some white sneakers. Don't be afraid to play with tints and colours, either. These sunglasses are meant to stand out, not blend in.

Rectangular frames

A firm favourite of the street style crowd right now, angular, geometric frames are having a big moment, whether they're being rocked by Harry Styles or The Inspired Unemployed. But while they might look a bit more 'fashun' than your regular specs, pulling them off isn't that much different to rocking a pair of Wayfarers. If you like summery fits, bright shirts and playing with fabrics and textures, trending Prada sunglasses are a great shout to help you stand out even more.

Sport mode

Sporty speed-dealer sunglasses have been either largely written off or worn almost exclusively with a touch of irony in recent years, but the fact remains that due to a resurgence in turn of the millennium fashion, the test cricket specials are making a comeback. That's not to say we recommend pairing your Oakley sunglasses with a suit and tie at special occasions, but much like the resurgence of the modern-day mullet, if you're a fan of retro sportswear or a more streetwear-heavy look, there's never been a more fashionable time to invest in athletic eyewear.
