Okay, so we’re not sure where exactly the year went, but Christmas is just around the corner. Literally. Simply add to cart, and opt to spread the cost of your shop over 4 equal instalments (with no added interest or fees when you pay on time!). No strangers to an ICONIC Christmas, we tapped Matty J and Laura Byrne for their own gift shopping hacks, what they’re wearing on Christmas Day, and what holiday movie they’d pick if they could only watch one of the rest of their lives (hint: Will Ferrell makes an appearance)...
What splurge items are at the top of your wishlist this year?
Matty J: Crocs! You can never have too many pairs of crocs. I'm also desperate for some new luggage so that needs to go on the list. And you can't go wrong with cologne (Laura hint, hint)
Laura: I'd love a Marc Jacobs Snapshot Bag. I have had my eye on it for months.
What are you gifting the other for guaranteed brownie points?
Matty J: Conscious Laura is going to read this and my surprise will get ruined. But I think I'll get her a new pair of sunglasses, which is a very practical gift (which will go down well). The average lifespan of Laura's glasses is about 1 month, so she'll be well and truly due for a new pair come Christmas.
Laura: Matt is SO hard to buy for. But a fail-safe present for him is a punchy button-up shirt and some nice cologne.
What will the girls be stoked to find under the tree?
Matty J: Anything pink! They both absolutely love dresses, so that'll be an obvious choice. They also love story time before bed so a new book will go down perfectly.
Laura: I've just spotted the Cattywampus Play Tent, which has hide and seek written all over it for the girl's room.
Fave way to spend Christmas Day?
Matty J: I expect to get woken up by daughters around 6am – then we'll jump straight into presents. Then I'll be surrounded by seafood, ham, family and Aperol Spritz in the backyard until the evening (weather permitting).
Laura: We are doing Christmas at our place this year, and we are hosting so it's going to be a big beautiful day. I just hope we can all have a nap after the presents, and food coma.
Your ultimate Christmas gift-shopping hack?
Matty J: I say this as someone who is ALWAYS guilty of doing the opposite – get it done early! Knock off your shopping at the start of the month then enjoy winding down work and coasting into Christmas!
Laura: Make a list – just like Santa would do. If you have a list and plan out what you're getting each person you save so much money and time.
You can only watch one Christmas movie for the rest of your life – which one is it?
Matty J: Elf. It's an absolute masterpiece. I tried to sit down with our girls to watch it but quickly realised it wasn't appropriate for a 2 and 4 year old. It still blows my mind that Will Ferrell was 35 when he filmed it!
L: Ok, I have two. The Grinch, which is very random but so heartwarming and would it be Christmas without Love Actually? It is ICONIC! The scene where Karen is in her room after her husband gives her the CD for Christmas... My heart.
Bon-bons are cracked, paper crowns are on, and you’re sitting down to Christmas lunch – what are you loading onto your plate first?
Matty J: Prawns. It's tradition in our house to try and eat your bodyweight in prawns. No one has successfully done it but I think this year might be my lucky Christmas.
Laura: I'd happily skip lunch and head straight to Christmas pudding and custard if I could. To me it tastes like home and reminds me of Christmas at my Nana's house.
You’ve got one outfit to see you through from Christmas morning to night – what are you wearing?
Matty J: I'll be dripping in linen. AERE does it the best so they'll be my go-to. I don't think I'm brave enough to wear white so I think it'll be navy this year.
Laura: Yeah, I'll be in linen too. I love the label AERE as all of the pieces are so versatile, they have great matching sets and dresses that make you look like you've gone to a lot of effort but feel like something you just threw on.
