There are some of us who wouldn’t go back to high school for all the money in the world. The feeling of not quite fitting in, the finding of friends, the awkwardness that touches almost every element of your world. At least, though, our mum wasn’t a sex therapist whose sex education videos were part of the curriculum.
That mum (Jean) is played by the one and only X-Files star Gillian Anderson – the woman who time has not touched – in Netflix’s Sex Education.

VOGUE called it “flat out terrific” and Rotten Tomatoes awarded it 91 percent. This show is a can’t-stop-watching John Hughes-esque saga. It’s so real, so smart it almost stings. And yes, we watched it all in the one go.
To give you a taste, quotes include -
“Sometimes the people we like don’t like us back, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
And worse still: “You can’t choose who you’re attracted to.”
It’s a coming of age that is so very far from PG rated. It’s filthy and cry-with-laughter funny as we follow Otis (Asa Butterfield) struggling to find his way through high school. He soon finds himself as the school’s fee-for-service sex-pert (in spite of being a virgin) thanks to the entrepreneurial Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey).
“You’re like some sort of strange sex savant,” Maeve tells him after overhearing him coach the school bully through three too many Viagras.
And from there, the dollars roll in and the adventures escalate.
Best of all: season two has just been announced.
