What Is Lived-In Texture?
Spotted backstage at Michael Lo Sordo’s AAFW 2023 show, Redken Hair Director Richard Kavanagh, said he wanted to create a look with a lo-fi French chic vibe. The hair needed to complement the luxury and sexiness of the collection, “[think] Kate Moss in the early 2000s and creating hair that is effortlessly undone and slightly raw.” The result was lived-in, chic French girl tresses.
In a nutshell, lived-in texture is hair that looks perfectly-undone, as if you’ve put next to no effort into it. But of course, effortless styles are never truly effortless, and this look is no exception.

How To Get The Look
This style is all about enhancing the natural texture of your hair to create slightly tousled, uber-cool Parisian vibes. Richard Kavanagh prepped the models hair with backstage hair hero Redken Quick Blow Out – a lightweight blow dry primer with heat protection that conditions and smooths your locks during drying – and a bristle brush to minimise volume and enhance the quality of the hair. A light bend was put in the hair with a curling wand to add some shape before finishing the style with a dry texture spray for an instant cool girl look.

Your Product Lineup
Hair preparation is key to perfecting this style. Start by prepping your hair with the Redken Quick Blow Out before blow drying. If your hair is on the thin side, try adding the Redken Volume Maximizer Thickening Spray for additional weightless, flexible volume. Locks looking more limp than luxe? Damaged hair won’t work with this style. However, a good leave-in conditioner will help strengthen stressed out strands while adding nourishment and instant shine. Redken’s Acidic Perfecting Concerntrate is their most concentrated all-in-one formula for repairing all types of damaged hair. It can be used in addition to your usual haircare routine, but it works best as a complete system with the Redken Acidic Bonding Shampoo and Conditioner. Simply apply to damp hair and style as usual to mimise breakage and split ends.
