The past year or so has seen us spend an awful lot of time indoors, so it’s no great surprise that our home (and how it’s styled) has become a bit of an obsession. But just like in fashion, homeware trends come and go – here’s what to expect for 2022 with the following top interior trends coming your way.
Minimalism
Set to be a top interior trend for 2022 is this pared back approach to styling. Perhaps a hangover from the pandemic, interests have turned towards increasing air flow and free space within a home, and the decluttering of whatever we can get our hands on. This means the rising popularity of furniture which is far from fussy, pieces that are instead both practical and easy on the eye.
Quality over quantity
Just as we’re slowly moving further away from fast fashion, the same goes for homewares. Mass-produced creations are no longer as in-demand as they once were with our attention firmly on investing in pieces for our homes. Aside from a boom in antiques, we’re talking about interest growing in those artisanal, perhaps sustainable, well-made pieces that will serve us well for years to come. Like the top-notch linens produced by IN BED.
Earthy tones and textures
Natural (and calming) tones and textures will continue to be integrated into our living spaces – think along the likes of stone, onyx, marble, granite, and wood from benchtops to accessories. Textiles, like table linen and matching napkins, will also play a key role with layered linen and cotton predicted to be popular. The colour palettes set to be embraced will follow along these lines, with muted tones predicted to remain a key interior design trend for next year.

The home office
Again, it’s no shock to learn that a permanent WFH space is predicted to be a key interior design trend of 2022. We’re trading in the kitchen table for a fully established home office, with all the bells and whistles to match. If a designated office isn’t an option, start by rearranging the furniture to make room for a small desk and chair – preferably somewhere bathed in natural light.
Curves
Loved for its ability to enhance the romantic feel of any space, curvey design is already a booming trend set to continue well into next year. This kind of furniture devoid of any sharp edges really helps to soften and soothe a living space - imagine c-shaped sofas, circular cushions, curvy contemporary chairs, and flower-shaped table tops among more.
