4 Signs Your Bra Doesn’t Actually Fit

Red flags to look out for when a bra isn’t your best bosom buddy.
How To Fit A BraHow To Fit A Bra

There’s no better feeling than wearing a bra that fits perfectly. It’s supportive, it’s comfortable and it lifts more than just your mood. But finding the best bosom buddy isn’t always an easy feat. Hopefully, by understanding the telltale signs of an ill-fitting bra you can save yourself from future pain and discomfort. Here are 4 red flags to look out for when trying on bras and lingerie at home.

1. The the band rides up at the back
The band (the part that sits under your bust and hugs your body) is actually where most of the support comes from, not the bra straps, hence why strapless bras can still provide good support. It’s important that the band sits level to the floor when it's on, and feels firm but not uncomfortably tight. When you’re trying on a bra for the first time, the band should be on the loosest fitting clasp. With regular wear, the band will naturally loosen over time so starting on the last clasp gives you the option to adjust and tighten as you need.

2. Your boobs spill out of the cups
Even with push up bras, your boobs should sit comfortably within the bra cups, not floating about in mid air and not squashed in so that they’re spilling out. To find your closest cup size, take a measuring tape, wrap it around your ribcage and measure the fullest part of your bust. Note down this measurement, as well as your underbust measurement, and compare with the brand’s size guide.

3. The underwire digs in
If and underwire bra fits well, the wire at the centre of the bra should sit flat between your chest and finish behind your boob. If the wire is digging in or being pushed out by your boobs, try a larger cup size.

4. The straps leave marks on your skin
Like we said before, the majority of support from your bra comes from the band that sits under your bust. The straps do provide some support, but they're not the ones doing the heavy lifting therefore there’s no need for them to be so tight that they leave imprints.
