Looking for wedding inspo beyond the bridal mags and Pinterest boards? Look no further than Oscars night. With Hollywood’s A-list in attendance at awards ceremony and after party, there was no shortage of breathtaking dresses, jewellery and beauty looks to behold. Ahead, the 5 Oscars trends we’d be tapping for our big day.
The Refreshed White Dress
Turn your something old into something new with a fresh twist on the classic white wedding gown. From Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh’s sheer neckline and drop earrings combo to Mindy Kaling’s corset-inspired bodice; full frothy skirts, bohemian lace and streamlined long-sleeved silhouettes, the stars showed us just how many ways there are to put your personal stamp on this timeless wedding style.
Silver Screen
While it might be the night of gold statues, silver proved to be the metallic of the moment. This season’s silver jewellery resurgence was front and centre, with stars opting for short necklaces, sparkling studs and bracelets in cool, polished tones. Sequinned silver gowns were also out in full force, with drapery, daring necklines and splits bringing dimension to the look. If you’re after an alternative to bridal white that’s still on theme, we think silver might be *the one*.
Ladies In Red
Red is shaping up to be one of this season’s key colours, and it’s a vibrant choice if you want to dress your bride tribe by colour. From deep bordeaux and cherry red to bright vermilion, the Oscars carpet (not red, ironically) saw the entire spectrum in the spotlight. Red bridesmaids dresses are equal parts regal and romantic, and the perfect vibe if you’re planning an autumn or winter wedding. Team with a silver shoe to make the look pop, or a nude heel for something more classic.
The New Updo
While low buns and chignons will always be a classic wedding hairstyle, this season we’re excited to put the up back in the updo. From Vanessa’s sleek and slick scraped-back bun to Rihanna’s meticulously messy look, a higher updo is a great way to show off a bold shoulder or decolletage, or a statement pair of earrings. Permission to skip the veil on this one, though.
Unexpected Embellishments
Celebs pulled from the realms of art, nature and architecture to set their Oscars looks apart – and the same tactic can make your own wedding look even more memorable. This season’s breakout trend – rosettes – were spotted big and small on shoulders, waists and necklines (perfect if you’d rather wear your bouquet than hold it all day). Channel an art deco aesthetic with graphic, glimmering embellishments arranged in eye-catching formations (cc: Kendall Jenner in vintage Jean Paul Gaultier at the Oscars afterparty). Bows, prints and ruffles also came to play – offering endless inspiration for injecting some personality into your big day.
