At Home With Sophie Bell

“Our home has to always evoke all the senses, so not just making the space visually look beautiful but to smell amazing, sound relaxing with the music we play and so on.”

Sophie Bell is dedicated to making life beautiful. As the founder of Peppa Hart, a creative agency that offers bespoke services for brands and businesses, she creates websites, branding and digital strategies. She also channels her love of style, art and architecture into freelance styling for interior design projects, events and photo shoots, which often take place at her idyllic Mediterranean farmhouse in Northern NSW.

Discover Sophie’s daily routine as she takes us through her skincare rituals, the home fragrance she adores and why she swears by dry body brushing.

How do you wake yourself up in the morning?

“I love waking up slowly around 6:30ish. We sleep with our blinds open so the sun wakes me up in the morning. I start every day the same – drink a big glass of lemon water, light incense and put music on softly as soon as we wake up. It puts me in such a good mood (usually, it’s my Mucho Relaxo playlist). First thing in the morning is definitely my favourite time of the day – the quiet before the crazy begins. We live in the country so the mornings are so special. Luckily our kids like to sleep in a little so as soon as we are up and about my husband and I enjoy a coffee on our balcony before the kids are up, it’s where we have our best chats, no distractions, just us.”

What does your morning beauty routine look like?

“After the kids are off to school with their dad, I do my morning workout around 8:15 and then jump straight into the shower. I use a cleansing balm on my face, which I wash off with a muslin cloth. If you haven’t used a muslin cloth with your cleanser, get on it stat – it’s such a beautiful light exfoliation. I love using serums in my routine and use the Super C Ferulic by Medik8 at the moment and I roll it in with my Energy Beauty Bar by The Seeke. Then I apply La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream and follow with the Barrier Protect 2 SPF by The Daily Co before moving on to applying my everyday makeup.”

How do you switch off in the evening?

“Our office is located at our house, so my team finishes at around 5pm and once they head off, I switch from work mode to mum mode instantly. My husband picks the kids up in the afternoon and usually tries to keep them busy until we are done in the office. Once everyone has left the office, we put music on and spend quality time with the kids, usually a swim in the afternoons, playing in the cubby, cooking together and just being silly. We wind down as a family later in the evening, watching Bluey, reading books, doing homework, all the usual things before they go to bed. Once the kids are in bed, Bell and I usually catch up on some Netflix and then head to bed. I am really trying to not work at night anymore so I can switch off and restore.”

Do you use any home scents?

“I am a huge lover of scents, it’s very important to me. From how my home smells to what laundry liquid I use – everything has a specific smell that I love. I have incense burning regularly and even travel with them. We have beautiful candles in my office, handwashes, body oils and room sprays, my all-time favourite room spray is the Aesop Istros, Pepper Lavender and Tobacco. I absolutely love using scents to help me feel inspired and creative in my work. The approach to our home has to always evoke all the senses, so not just making the space visually look beautiful but to smell amazing, sound relaxing with the music we play and so on.”

What are your top five beauty products?

“The top five is hard! So many things I love, but these are the things I use the most and would be lost without….

1.     I use a hydrating lip balm 24/7

2.     SPF every single day

3.     Mascara, I look like a different person with no mascara haha

4.     I love my Dyson Supersonic hairdryer

5.     I use the Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm – it sits by my bed so I use it right before bed and another one on my desk for top-ups throughout the day.”

What’s your favourite fragrance to wear?

“I love love love Smokeshow by SSaint, and AYU Perfume Oil in Souq.”

Any body care rituals that you swear by?

“I swear by a morning dry body brush. I follow it up (after showering, of course), with Aesop body balm or their body oil. I have naturally dry skin so I need all the help I can get to stay super hydrated.”

What’s your beauty philosophy?

“Consistency and a holistic approach: I’m a big believer in a consistent skincare routine, good quality, healthy food, lots of water, and taking care of your body every single day from the inside out. I like to add products like Vida Glow Collagen daily to help my skin from the inside out.”
