From movies to morning rituals, actor Tim Kano – who’s played Leo Tanaka in Neighbours since 2016 – talks all-things style and life in lockdown...
Style wise, who do you think about when you're getting dressed?
“Depends on the day, but I’ve always been a fan of ’50s American men's style. As an actor I’ve always revered Paul Newman, James Dean and a young Brando who all encompasses a cool, effortless aesthetic.”
Who’s your all-time style hero?
“It would be a cross between ASAP Rocky and Geoff Goldbloom. They nail it every time.”
What about your go-to look?
“All black, everything. Coming from Wellington to Melbourne it hasn’t been a hard transition.
Right now trackies are my new best friend. It’s been cool not having to think about having to be somewhere or see anyone and just chucking on what’s comfortable and relaxed to chill at home.”
Tell us a little about your world pre #iso?
“Pre iso, I’d just finished shooting a shark thriller ‘Great White’, which was an awesome time, and was auditioning for the next gigs. Now everything’s completely stopped and shut down, so I feel for everyone around the world going through extremely rough times in this crazy pandemic.”
And, now, what does it look like?
“I’ve been trying to embrace the down time in lockdown. Play with my pup, catch up on reading and watch things I’ve been meaning to see. It’s been good having time to keep in touch with friends abroad and hit pause.”
Your top 3 #isohacks?
“ 1. Getting a morning coffee – helping keep some sense of normalcy and supporting the locals!
2. Favourite restaurants adapting to takeout delivery have saved me. It’s no fun cooking for one in isolation.
3. “Phone low on batt” to escape those awkward houseparty calls.”
