Holiday Wear Of Choice: 10 Pieces You ACTUALLY Need

Your summer arsenal sorted.

Your summer wardrobe should be stacked with versatile items that can be interchanged whilst reflecting your individual style and personality. In a bid to offer some guidance, here are a few things to put in your basket this summer.

Both formal and informal, a great linen shirt can be dressed up and dressed down. Look for something with a high cotton count that fits (but doesn’t hug) your body shape. Opt for pastel colours that can be easily paired with a tailored short or swimmers.

If the linen shirt is your Fred Astaire then your tailored short is your Ginger Rogers. Grab yourself a few well-fitting cotton shorts in navy and tans that finish just above the knee.

Whether Roman sandals, Birkenstocks or espadrilles, make sure your summer wardrobe includes a pair of suitably smart open shoes. Save the thongs and slides for the sand and wear something a little more refined when firmly on dry land.

Whilst the runways continue to showcase wacky and futuristic designs, you can’t go wrong with classic Wayfarer, pilot styles or ‘Lennon-style’ frames with tortoise shell or metal detailing. Make sure they offer SPF protection.

Ensure you’re sun safe and lobster face free and pack a hat. Go ‘normcore’ with a bucket hat or elect for a more classic look with a wide-brimmed fedora. Whatever your choice, make sure you can rock it with the rest of your staples.

Stuff your canvas tote with swimmers or load it with your BBQ wares. This summer must-have offers a versatile and more environmentally-friendly way to carry your goods around. Its packs down easy too.

Summer isn’t summer without a loud shirt. Whether you like them muscle fit or loose around the sides, choose something that is bright and bombastic.

The humble slide has been propelled to fashion must-have status thanks largely to streetwear and luxury athleisure trends. But let’s not forget that slides also perform a rudimentary function on the beach and around the pool. Make sure you have yours.

Not stereotypically a fashion staple, but a quick-drying Turkish towel offers an essential function both at the pool and on the sand. Ensure the colour and pattern you choose aligns to your wardrobe colour palette and can be stuffed into your tote with ease.

Lastly, your chance to show some style. Fun swimming shorts can be worn both on and off the beach and can be paired with party and linen shirts alike. Look for patterns in complimentary colours to limit colour clashes.
