Just as they have in Januarys gone by, last week Europe’s most fashionable once again descended on Florence for the biannual Pitti Uomo fair. You know what that means… street style inspo from the best-dressed men in the game. Dubbed the ‘menswear Mecca’, Pitti Uomo is a who’s who of the most exciting emerging and established designers, all eager to show off their latest ready-to-wear collections. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite looks with a few quick takeaways for building your dream 2023 wardrobe. *All images with thanks to Getty Images

Apparel
A little less dizzying for this time of year, soft suiting and relaxed tailoring were heavy features at Pitti Uomo ground zero. You truly can’t go wrong with a navy suit and classic button down shirt, but for those looking to take their look to the next level we’re again shouting out texture. Patterns – we’re talking stripes, plaid and houndstooth – paired smartly with your favourite knit, are sure to catch the eye. And yes, we’re still doing sneakers and suits. Look to crisp white sneakers with a low profile for slimmer cuts, or a chunkier silhouette if you prefer a wider leg suit pant. Same applies for baggy jeans, which we’re thrilled are here to stay. Side note: good luck getting us back in anything slimmer/less comfy in 2024.

Accessories
For whatever reason, headwear has evolved into one of the key talking points from Pitti Uomo over the years, and 2023 is no different. We’re not suggesting you should go the full safari hard hat route (unless you really want to), but we are inclined to recommend investing in a beanie or two this year. Complimenting the aforementioned knitted textures, there’s also an opportunity here to break things up with a hit of colour. Even the guy who brought his literal cat to the party had the right idea with his green Prada number up top. Simple, steezy and warm. Sounds good to us.

Outerwear
For all of us in the Southern Hemisphere, the idea of layering up mid-summer is a little dizzying (and possibly sweat inducing, no?), but piecing together an early idea of what our winter wardrobes might look like never hurts. Out in force throughout the week, we’re firm believers that a statement outer layer piece can make even the greyest winter days a little bit brighter. Think knits, patchwork, felt letterman jackets, and wool car coats dressed in checks and houndstooth. Elsewhere, we’re also feeling the return of a clean-cut, indestructible, wear-with-everything leather jacket. More of this, please.
