The Noughties-era Haircuts Racing Back Into Fashion

From curtains to wolf cuts.

Whether you've been inspired to make a change in lockdown, kept an eye on the street style heavyweights at Fashion Week or have even been tuned in to the sport over the winter, you've likely come across a rather indisputable fact: guys are having more fun with their hair than we've seen in a long time. While the 2010s belonged to pomade, clean fades and slicked-back, Don Draper-esque side parts, we've thrown off the shackles and embraced a more rebellious approach to grooming once more. Here are some of the turn-of-the-millenium hairstyles we're seeing the world's most stylish guys embracing right now.

The Curtains

Plucked straight from the heavily-tracksuited era of '90s britpop and Hugh Grant's foppish turns in films like Notting Hill, the return of the curtain has undeniably been the defining men's hair trend of 2021, with more and more growing out into loose, heartthrobish locks. England's Jordan Pickford and Jack Grealish dominated Euro 2020 with their Keira Knightley in Bend It Like Beckham hairdos, while the anime boyfriend favourite also remains the prevailing hairstyle amongst K-Pop's most stylish male idols.

The Mullet

We've seen the mullet taken to extremes on the football field courtesy of players like Bailey Smith and Ryan Papenhuyzen, but the humble mullet, and its grown up cousin the Wolf Cut, has also seen a high fashion comeback in recent times. Jacob Elordi has been spotted on many a red carpet with a certified party at the back happening, while Zac Efron jumped aboard the bandwagon upon his temporary relocation Down Under.

The Summer Dye-job

Whether it be the return of platinum blonde and frosted tips or neon hues a-la Frank Ocean at the Met Gala, guys are embracing colour once again. David Beckham and his two sons both hit the grooming reset button with bleached buzz cuts as the summer came to a close, Zayn Malik opted for ice-blue tints at one stage, while Gossip Girl actor Evan Mock is constantly setting new bars for colourised cuts.

The Big Curls

The Big Curls

Volume, volume, volume. That's the order of the day among the naturally curly haired, from Timothée Chalamet, to Bad Bunny, to Shawn Mendes, all of whom have been letting their locks grow into voluptuous creations worthy of any red carpet. Even guys with shorter, wavier hair are embracing their natural flow, staying away from slicked-back styles and embracing more low-maintenance looks.
