Endometriosis affects 10% of women and girls globally, according to the World Health Organisation. That’s 190 million people experiencing this chronic disease. Chances are that includes you or your friends and family.
Endometriosis, or endo, is when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus and elsewhere in the body. This causes a range of symptoms including chronic pain and leads to scar tissue and inflammation, particularly in the abdomen with many sufferers experiencing severe bloating in the form of ‘endo belly’, along with many other debilitating health issues. Because the symptoms vary, it can be extremely difficult to diagnose and requires surgery for a definitive answer.

Considering the day-to-day struggle sufferers live with, the simple enough task of getting dressed can be a battle. And frankly exuding your personal style can drop to the bottom of the priority list.
Of course, there is no official endo uniform, so we asked people living with the disease what everyday items they wear to feel their best and keep comfort top of mind. This is what they picked.
Knit Dresses
The verdict: A one-step choice in winter, knit dresses mean cosy comfort with no waistband to dig in. To avoid a too-snug fit, size up to skim rather than cling.
High-waisted Tights
…and pants. For some, stretchy support can be a good feeling, for others elastic or fastenings at the waist are hell. Opting for an extra high (or low) waist avoids any extra discomfort.
Topped with Blazers
Tailored outerwear like blazers, and oversized styles like bombers can provide easy, throw-on style and divert from how bloated you may be feeling that day.
An all-in-one
Bodysuits and jumpsuits meet the same criteria as the knit dress – no digging in and a one-and-done style solution. You can even wear sporty versions if you’re feeling up to gentle yoga.
Bamboo Sleepwear
At bedtime, super soft fabric and a loose waistband are essential. Particularly for hospital visits and post excision surgery, people are discovering bamboo as their material of choice.
Self-care
Most importantly, go easy on yourself. On days when dressing is bottom of the list, why not take time for a little self-care with these at-home remedies.
