With Christmas right around the corner, now is the time to get into the festive spirit. Some of us like to keep it low key and light a Christmas candle and curl up to watch the latest The Princess Switch movie, while others can’t help but embrace the festive spirit in every way, turning on the Christmas lights, wearing red and green everything and playing Mariah’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on repeat.
However you choose to celebrate these holidays, Christmas nail designs are always a good idea. “During Christmas time I definitely see a lot more of your classic festive colours coming through – lots of red, gold and white – and clients who typically choose plain or minimal designs seem to become more adventurous and choose fun, quirky designs like a snowflake or Christmas tree feature nail,” says Nail Artist, Jenna Lynch.
According to Jenna, this season it’s all in the details. “I’ve been seeing a lot of French tips with extra little details like a delicate string of lights over a classic white tip or a candy cane pattern detail where the tip colour meets the nail bed.” For those of us who like to play it safe, she also recommends trying a seasonal take on classic French tips by swapping white for festive red or gold glitter tips to look like tinsel. And for the more daring, “It’s always fun to really commit to the silly season and get a full set of 10 festive designs or a detailed feature nail that really pops – a cute gingerbread man or Christmas lights that travel across the nails can look great,” says Jenna.

Hand care essentials and how to look after your holiday mani
Now that you’ve got your festive nails sorted, you might be wondering how to maintain your new mani throughout the holidays. Jenna recommends applying cuticle oil daily to keep your nails fresh and to prevent polish from lifting, chipping or cracking. “Cuticle oil not only keeps the skin around your nails looking tidy and hydrated, but it also keeps your nail bed moisturised,” she says.
Along with cuticle oil, don’t forget to regularly apply a nourishing hand cream to keep your hands soft and moisturised all season long. Here are a few of our favourites.
