Style Notes From This Year’s Academy Awards Red Carpet

There’s a time and place to name-drop, and Natalie Portman nailed it.

ICYMI, the stars served up some quality style inspiration at the 92nd Academy Awards and here’s what we’re taking from it:

Style Note #1: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: pockets are ALWAYS a good addition to an outfit, as seen on the stunning Geena Davis.

Style Note #2: Puff sleeves will guarantee a grand entrance, no matter how small you are, as proven by Julia Butters.

Style Note #3: There’s no such thing as too much shimmer. Janelle Monae wore it literally from head to toe, Maya Rudolph and Brie Larson were among others who followed suit.

Style Note #4: Sometimes a subtle name-drop isn’t such a bad thing, especially if you’re like Natalie Portman, who wore a Dior cape emblazoned with the names of the female directors who didn’t get nominated. “I wanted to recognise the women who were not recognised for their incredible work this year” she explained in a red carpet interview. We are all ears!

Style Note #5: You literally cannot go wrong with a simple slip dress, just look to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for proof.
